Natural Veggie Dances & Lovely Travel Chances

7 Feb

Aaalright I’m back! (Again) Bringing you the latest in my life in all things: art, veggie, organic/all natural loveliness, spirituality, and everything everything in between.

I have been a vegeface for over 10 years. There have been moments of weakness if you will, overall perhaps a whole year in those 10 which I ate meat/dairy. http://www.meetyourmeat.com

Sometimes people ask me “WHY are you a vegetarian [insert stupid meat eater joke]?!”  And sure it may be.. “funny” now, but I highly doubt if you opened up your mind a little you’d be laughing about all the horrifics that go on in the meat eating process/ industry. So why? Well let me tell you just a little something

The meat industry and factory farm practices are beyond absurd disgusting evil situations that absolutely all beings should be free from. Aside from the deliberate physical abuse that these animals endure due to the type of workers that this attracts, which are psychos who get off on this, these animals are subjected to horrible ‘living’ conditions. They are in constant fear. They are force-fed not only each other (which causes terrible disease amongst EVERYONE), Did you hear that.. what if I fed you human? What If when you were born I grabbed you from your mother and locked you up to tenderize your meat so I could eat you, and whoop your mother’s ass for no reason, but anyway also fed antibiotics, pesticide in their feed, poisons such as arsenic in their feed, hormones, and fuck else. This in turn is what one who eats meat will consume. Fear included. Craziness, stress, disease included.

I understand that vegetarianism is not the answer to the world, I get it assholes, I get it. However, I can tell you that I have only felt better and better about life since purposely choosing to stay away from those awful things. I love anything that lives and loves as well. I want happiness for every living being and it is impossible to achieve when we are consciously doing this to another life form. It’s only obvious. A good documentary is this Earthlings
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCRspwfKHmI   <— The Earthlings

I think everyone could benefit from watching this. I would like to think that my fellow human race is brave enough to get informed and open up their eyes to everything around them.

So Organic/ farmers /growing own. Why?!

Well nowadays we have allowed pesticides and GMOs to infiltrate our now not so nutritious food. Which renders them practically inedible both from a lack of taste and a lack of any nutrient. They cause horrendous health issues not only among those currently eating such foods but their future children. We are killing important animals which help plants naturally grow elsewhere. Such as the Bees. We have plenty of time to get into all this in detail but for now I’ll let that marinate some. But brace yourself there’s so much to learn. In the meantime I leave you with some of my favs

stuffed turky :))

Vegan sect wholefoods berwyn A nice selection of vegan food at Whole Foods in Berwyn, Il

daiya One of my cheez options

chickenwrap Tastes better than real chick

des1 Vegan Peanut butter chocolate cake slice (From The Chicago Diner) One of my favorite Veggie restaurants in Chicago

des2 Hail Merry Vegan Coco vanilla tart is probably the most delicious amazing addicting tasty thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying.

des3 Mmmm Vegan Smores. For those of you who do not know Marshmallows are made out of fish shit.

des4 Absolutely delish, I’ve been hoping for a vegan mousse for a minute

Being a vegetarian I have also chosen to have a mostly organic and all natural lifestyle. I became immensely annoyed with the ingredients in just about everything I was eating, or putting on my body (lotions, hair stuff, etc). Not to mention the animal testing and animal product (more fish shit and bug guts) in the products. So I slowly started this transition about 7 years ago. So far, so great.

Alba Lotion  Smells great, avg price for all natural/ organic face moisturizers

chapstick

blood orange perfume  One of my favorite products ever. Smells beyond amazing and I just absolutely love it

I am a big fan of going deodorant-less, I looove not wearing any deodorant, it is for some reason very liberating and I have ended up appreciating myself on a whole other level. It could be my pheromones getting the best of me or who knows. But that is awesome. However I understand every once in a while you gotta wear deodorant, so let’s make some.

deoerant  Homemade deodorant my sister made. Made with Baking soda, coconut oil and all natural rose love sprayeco nuts

homemade detergent Homemade laundry detergent my sister made. Made mostly from baking soda, a shaved soap bar, and borax.

natural body spray 🙂 I got my sisters some of these, frikkin lovely

pons  Gotta go there ladies and gents. So you know your common tampons use most likely GMO/Pesticide cotton, and not only that but they use bleached and perhaps chemical tampons. Need I say any more?

I have also changed most of my make up and nail polish, shampoos, body anything, hair spray, etc. Soon comes the clothing :)) For Xmas I got most people all natural clothes/products.

So some people have asked “Was it hard?” And honestly No. It was the easiest and actually a pretty fun thing. I’ am constantly discovering new foods, restaurants, recipes, etc regarding these things. I have also been very lucky to have had a great support system consisting of my two lovely amazing sisters who have very similar opinions on this. This has reminded me the importance of having supportive mothafos around you ❤ Love yous

So now, what work did I do nearing the end of 2013? Okay soooo holy canolis, it was a fun fun year and I’ll cover a few of my favorite/most memorable gigs.

So I believe in a previous post I mentioned creating with the soul/heart, perhaps, maybe not. But I will, it is something to go on about anyway. Sooo in the beginning of the spring I started focusing on traveling. I once wrote 2-3 months in the future on my calendar “Travel?” and on that exact date I took the first road trip I had taken (w/o fam), among other lovely travel opportunities I got. Such as Florida for work twice and Pittsburgh for work for 3 weeks.

Florid2 (big ass birdies) Florida Peacock

^^One of the coolest things about Florida was the animals you saw hanging around. The birds are different than here, I saw some hawks, white birds with red faces, big ass birds with red faces, peacocks for no reason, and lizards galore. ^^

One of my fav trips in my life was Pittsburgh! I had a freaking blast. My hotel was townhouse style, had a kitchen, fireplace, walk out balcony where I could hang out and did all the time, and was very awesomely located on a hill above the cemetery. I met some really awesome people on my second day there. We went to yoga together, hung out at their awesome place, went to nature together, and worked haha. I also was able to visit a friend from Chicago who was living there. Overall an amazing time.

Which brings me to my next travel loveliness opportunity. I was given the opportunity to travel with this band, experience the trip and work along the way as I wanted to, as well as sell their merch at their shows. It was a very cool an fun awesome happy experience. We cooked food on the car, slept at the mall and in all sorts of other places, yogaed in the park in Arizona, danced on the beach, ate some awesome food, met some lovely people, saw some cool stuff, and it was just quite an experience.

Kansas City  Upon my arrival in Kansas City, MO; at a gathering we were at, we heard there was a Matisyahu show right around the corner. We all somehow got in, and I danced to one of my favorite all time songs ever ❤

I’d like to thank all involved in 2013 for being a part of it and I welcome 2014, a month later.. with open arms! I say this every year, “This is going to be the best year of my life!” And every year it is! 😀 I hope this will be the best year of your life ❤

Holy Hemp!

I’ve been so drawn to vegan, ethical, and green fashion as well as products. It’s so fun to check out all the alternative ways these brilliant people have come up with to create such awesomeness.

I’ve come across the loveliest green, ethical, fair trade, vegan fashion, products, and accesories. One of the most fun items I ran into recently are these reclaimed wood bow ties and mens ties.
http://www.ecouterre.com/two-guys-craft-bow-ties-from-reclaimed-wood-fabric/
woodbowtie

How darn cool is that!? I think it’s so creative. I might get one and rock it on a night out on the town. I love the concept and think they look pretty pretty awesome.

Along with that I Found this just as awesome reclaimed wood-made ties and bags http://woodthumb.com/

Woodenbag

I’ve recently decided to make it a very important point in my life to focus on items that are Vegan/Veggie and/or cruelty free (mainly), but also fair trade and maybe even organic. It’s been quite liberating. I recently let go of a “designer” bag that I used to think I was really into. I realized how f-ing stupid it is to spend such money on a printed dead cow hanging from my shoulder. Well not shoulder, because I mostly buy crossbody bags, but you get the point. People spend thousdands of dollars on bags made from ostrich, leather, rare animals, alligator, etc. Think about it for one second, that’s all it takes. How stupid. It’s almost embarrassing. It is embarrassing. Let’s stay positive though friends!
Well,
Muso Koroni has tons of vegan organic products/clothes/shoes. I’m looking forward to trading all my leather items in for awesome hemp, bamboo, plant, recycled material-made, bags and shoes. So many wonderful items are available out there. This is a cute cork belt I found.

I think its important to be in support of hemp and hemp made products. Hemp is so useful and it can be utilized in so many ways from food, to clothing, and everything in between. Here are some hemp basics

hemp
((I Want this so bad ^^ ))

Hemp is a great alternative to many animal-made products and it is super durable, strong, and versatile.

To be quite honest the hardest thing for me to give up were my very cozy boots. Until I fully realized what were made of. They are made from the skin of an animal. In other words these animals are specifically bred to be skinned and then made into boots…..
…. Oh they might be unnecessarily eaten as well, but you get the picture.

Even though there are tons of creative and exciting ways to create warm cozy boots/shoes, that is what I used to be into. So for the past 7 years I’ve been working on being a vegetarian, yet spending hundreds of dollars (time and time again) on a defenseless beautiful creature being skinned… Oysh the hipocracy! Let’s get it together world! I’ve since found so many boots that are vegan made. I am so grateful and excited to get some of these awesome creations.

Okay now get ready for truly the coolest thing that happened to me in a minute…
Alright, So these freaking amazing shoes http://www.oatshoes.com are shoes that you plant after you’re done wearing them. They decompose and not only that, but eventually begin to sprout flowers! WHAT?! That is one of the most exciting things that has happened to me in a couple of days man. This is unbelieveably inspiring to me, and I’m so excited to try these bad boys out.

This reminded me of something! My sisters and I have been getting these toothbrushes for a couple of years now that are made from recycled products that are cleaned and re-made. You use it, send it back in the little package it came in (via mail, pre-paid postage) and I believe they re-recycle it yet again! Quickly while looking at their page I saw they offer more products. I didn’t get a chance to check it all out, but here’s the link to their site.

I’d like to talk about yoga a little. The first time I ever took a class was about 8 years ago at a gym. I was very restless and could not get into it for the life of me. I tried it a few times and then just left it at that. I didn’t even get it to be honest, and it also freaked me out a little. During my most rigorous acting training; my acting teacher suggested I start doing a series of these very intense phsyical exercises. In these videos they did a couple yoga sessions. It was very physical however I began to start enjoying it so much. I remember writing in a little journal “Look for a yoga studio” about 2 years ago. While on Netflix and looking for workouts, I searched for yoga. This really great video popped up and for the next 4 -6 months I did it 3-4x a week.
Eventually they took it off Netflix and I searched for a studio. I found one near my house and while casually inviting a friend, she mentioned another studio. They had a free week so I decided to check it out. Immediately I was challenged and excited by it. My body was doing the coolest stuff and I was feeling super relaxed. I’ll eventually elaborate on yoga, but in short (for now) it has truly been one the greatest expereinces of my life. I constantly choose yoga over.. well a lot really. It has become such a healthy “habit” if you will. I do not necessarily like to call it that, but what I mean is that I simply cannot get enough. I want to go more and more and often times find myself taking the 2 hardest classes back to back in hopes that it will suffice!

In my experience yoga helps with sooooo sooo soooo much. There are so many health, physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits.

One of my new favorite things to do is to work with fruits and veggies to make my own DIY beauty concoctions. With my mortar and pestle at hand (or magic bullet) and a smile across my face I’ve been making some really cool stuff. Most recently I made a banana facial, cucumber eye mask, followed by apple cider vinegar as toner. Immediately my skin looked so lovely. banana

Banana Face!

The next step is an avocado lemon hair mask. I’ve already set my avocados aside, I’ll let you know how it goes!

So Lastly,

I had a pretty cool jewelery shoot recently. I have a like love relationship with modeling. Sometimes I just like it get in get out, get my check and other times I reall enjoy it, get inspired and have a great time with it. This shoot was a little bit of both. The business aspect to these things can get tedious, however you’re still making a form of art and in this case I was modeling really cool art. Hand made African beads made into really cool jewelery. Very unique and nicely made necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Ony of my favorite things about photo shoots is that there is usually a lot of really good food around. And my favorite is when they ask “Are you a vegetarian?” HELL YES I AM.. What kind of goodies will you have for a vegetarian!? The’ll usually hook it up with some awesome veggie options!

Well anyway,
Below are a few of my shots from the shoot and some prep pics

“Let’s Live Like We Give a Darn… Namaste”

10 Jan

I hope everyone had a great Xmas and New Year and everything else one might celebrate! I’m really excited for 2013 and beyond. A new era is in among us and we’re ultimately going towards a happier, healthier future, and hopefully we’ll all be in a much better state. So guide yourself with happiness, positivity, and open up your hearts. This is so good!

Pyramid

http://mexicanart.info/ I’ve been getting more and more into Mexican art ancient and contemporary. This website showcases so many different types of art and ancient cultural structures that are just mind blowing. My sisters and I were fortunate enough to have been able to visit and actually walk on some of the pyramids in Mexico in Cancun, many years ago and it was a great experience.

So she’s at it again. Ms. Theron knocked it out of the park yet another time. In this dark-ish funny, deep and shallow story Charlize plays this obnoxious yet likeable character amazingly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHGaZ6YIKFU Here you can see her doing an interview and a few bits from the movie itself. It’s a great film with a little bit of everything.

One of my yoga teachers always finishes class by saying something a long the lines of “What you eat and wear has a direct impact on the pain and suffering of all sentient beings. Let’s live like we give a darn, Namaste” There are so many natural renewable resources in the world that we could benefit from. We have the ability to use many natural materials creatively and be proud of something that had a good impact on the world a positive one. This link is a vegan shoe brand (and a few accessories) for guys and bebe boys ❤
http://keepcompany.com/categories/Shoes Keepshoe If I were a boy I’d get this shoe.. I think it’s on sale too!

I came across this article showcasing some bamboo earrings. Check them out, it’s a good idea! http://www.ecouterre.com/the-harbinger-co-crafts-intricate-bamboo-jewelry-in-san-francisco/ bambooearings

Something I’ve also been into is the idea of recycling materials and making everything form toothbrushes (Which I use) to birdhouses, and clothing. I came across this website http://www.playbackclothing.com/ which has t-shirts and hoodies for guys and ladies made from recycled materials. hoodie I know some of the shirts on the site are made from recycled bottles.

Something I ran into several times within the past few months was the title of a movie “Thrive”. I never heard exactly what it was about, however I have been introduced to some of the energy concepts within the past year and a half or two. I have felt for a while that as a whole we can do so much better and the only way is to take life by the balls and just do it. Come up with ideas, help each other, open up. The film is called Thrive. It is the idea that humanity is meant to thrive, and it is. There is more than enough in this world for abundance for everyone to enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEV5AFFcZ-s Youtube has the entire video. I hope you get the chance to watch it and take from it what you will. thirvepic

Along with this, I’ve been wanting to grow my own food. This year my sisters and I plan to start our own little garden and a couple of fruit trees in our backyard. We used to have a decent sized one growing up and have been itching to get it going.

http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/gardening-tips/ Here’s a few basic tips to get the garden ball rolling.

So my new vegan lifestyle has ben so so. Ive tried so many different vegan things this month and last. Sour cream, cream cheese, butter, coconut “butter”, soy ice cream, coconut milk ice cream, ‘cheeses’, and I even learned how to make my own almond milk. It is super easy and probably delicious. Looks delicious. So far everything is so much tastier than food with animal product. I can barely even stand the smell of butter nowadays. It all smells like death to me. Sad death. However these foods that do not use animal product not only smell and feel clean but they taste great! Since Valentine’s Day is coming up I’d like to share a few Valentines Day Vegan recipes I came across. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nil-zacharias/valentines-day-vegan-recipes_b_1266997.html#s681227&title=Red_Quinoa_Loaf

La vie est belle!

19 Dec

I’m Baaacckk! Lets dive right into it, shall we?

Acting talk:

I love to watch movies and take note of the acting that goes on. Obviously acting being my number one passion, it is important to me to do so. Recently I finally got the chance to watch the movie Monster with Charlize Theron. About a year ago I watched her Behind the Actor’s Studio episode and fell in love with her. She is unique like no other and has an immense acting ability. Good acting in Monster? TOTALLY YES YES! Charlize, you beyond brought it!

Animals are our friends.. We are all connected:

We’re headed into a magnificent new year. A lot of wonderful changes are coming.. wordly, spiritually, societal. It’s an exciting time to be alive!
For every thing on this planet! I’ve been a vegetarian on and off for 7 years, but about 99% on for the past 2 years. My goal is to start to live a more vegan lifestyle. Prior to officially becoming vegetarian, I ate meat pretty regularly, but just because it was there. But I never really enjoyed it. I was introduced to vegetarianism about 8 years ago by my older sister. It was a life changing event honestly. We read articles and saw videos on the truth about your meat. One such source is http://www.meetyourmeat.com and we could no longer allow ourselves to be a part of that. Both of my sisters and I have been vegetarian/vegans for years. It is a good thing. I am so beyond grateful that I was awakened from my ignorance and was able to see for myself and feel for myself what was wrong and what was truly right. So as we head into a brand new world I am excited to see how cool and creative my vegan lifestyle will be. I have found so many resources and fun things such as clothing, shoes, accessories, crafts, foods/restaurants, and books that showcase some great vegan ideas.
SO..
In light of the holidays and my new project: Veganism. I’d like to share a vegan gingerbread house recipe!

VEGAN GINGERBREAD RECIPE for GINGERBREAD HOUSES
:
Gingerbread
Line some cookie sheets with parchment paper. Tip: If you don’t have parchment paper, you can actually just use brown grocery bag paper.
Preheat over to 375 F.
In a large pot on low heat, melt:
• 1 cup vegetable shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup dark molasses

Remove from heat and mix in:
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 2 tsp. cinnamon
• 2 tsp. ginger

Stir in 4 1/2 to 5 cups flour, one cup at a time.
Mix and knead dough until it’s even and smooth, not crumbly or dry. Divide the dough into three pieces; wrap two in plastic wrap while you’re working with one, so they don’t dry out.

Frosting
3 cups of powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 tablespoons of Silk Nog or soy milk
Egg replacer for three eggs

Beat the soy milk, egg replacer and vanilla together, then add powdered sugar and beat until thickened. Add more sugar as needed to thicken the frosting. You might need to make a second batch later, depending on when you decorate and how much frosting you use when decorating—but don’t make it all at once because it’ll just get hard and dry out.

Decorating!
• Lots o’ vegan candy!
• Pretzels, mini shredded wheat (not frosted—it has gelatin in it), chocolate chips, whatever you want!
• Using the frosting, decorate your house with your vegan candy!

Vegan ginghouses

You can find the gingerbread house patterns here

This is just one of the many awesome vegan/veggie related fun things I am bringing you.

Broaden the mind

I will briefly talk about a good read. The book The Celestine Prophecy is the author James Redfield’s spiritual awakening account. It goes into coincidences, energies, personalities and psychological aspects of humans. The way we go about life and many spiritual ideas that have been around for centuries. It is one the first books of its’ kind that I got to read, and I truly enjoyed it. If I’m not mistaken, It is a fiction with non-fictional aspects to it. I invite you read it and have your own experience. I thought it was a lovely book.

A couple of quotes from the book:

“We must assume every event has significance and contains a message that pertains to our questions…this especially applies to what we used to call bad things…the challenge is to find the silver lining in every event, no matter how negative.”

“…Dreams come to tell us something about our lives that we are missing.”

Latin Lovins

The histpanic community lost a beloved entertainment figure earlier this month. So I’d just like to send Jenni Rivera a hott holla. May your spirit play on playa. And I’ll end this with a song and included montage of Ms. Rivera.
